Hair-Care Outlook: Fewer Steps, Clearer Jobs for Small Brands
Compare recent scalp, frizz and restyling launches to choose a focused small-brand hair-care range, without treating social attention as proven demand.

A small hair-care brand should select one specific user problem before adding more routine steps. Recent launches support testing scalp comfort, frizz management and between-wash styling; they do not prove that every new brand needs all three.
What has actually happened
On 27 October, mes° introduced three products built around repair, root volume and restyling. On 29 October, OGX announced a frizz-focused collection with separate formats for washing, conditioning and finishing. MOGAM’s 27 October release reported a number-one position in Amazon’s Hair Tonic New Releases on 25 October. That is a narrow category and a dated snapshot, not overall hair-care sales leadership.
What this may mean for a first range
Our interpretation is that buyers can differentiate through a clearly explained application job rather than a longer ingredient list. A scalp serum belongs on the scalp; a curl refresher belongs on lengths that need resetting. Combining every benefit on one label can make the product harder to explain and evaluate. This is a procurement recommendation, not a forecast of guaranteed sell-through.
Choose one job and one unacceptable result
For a scalp-first audience, reject samples that leave visibly wet or sticky roots at the agreed dose. For a curl audience, compare next-day softness and layering with the customer’s usual leave-in. For a wash-day audience, compare conditioning against loss of volume. Pick one primary customer group and photograph consistent sample comparisons; do not select only the most flattering hair type.
What remains uncertain
Public sources do not establish repeat-purchase rates for these new launches. Celebrity attention, cumulative platform sales and a short-lived ranking cannot resolve your own price, channel or customer fit. Before stocking multiple SKUs, test the product explanation with prospective customers and record which sample they would actually reorder.
A practical small-batch route
Ask JunChun to review a selected mature formula with compatible stock packaging first. Eligible projects may begin at 100 pieces per SKU; salon products and special components can require more. Packaging changes are reviewed from 500 pieces, subject to process minimums. Start with a usable product and clear instructions, then add a companion only when it solves a different problem.
Frequently asked questions
Does a new-release ranking prove sustained demand?
No. It is a dated category signal; repeat orders and customer retention need separate evidence.
Should a small brand launch a full scalp routine?
Only if its audience needs distinct steps and the inventory budget supports them.
Can every SKU start at 100 pieces?
No. That route is limited to eligible mature formulas with compatible stock packaging.
